Pull the cartridge out of a helmet air purifier after a few weeks of city riding and hold it up to the light. The intake face is grey. The edges are still white. That grey stripe is the part that never reached your lungs — and in 2026 you can buy it for $56 or for $935, a 16.7× spread on an identical promise. The category now has three serious products, four analyst houses that disagree about its size by nearly 2×, and nobody willing to say out loud where it lands.

What does a helmet air purifier actually cost in 2026?
Between $56 and $935, depending on which question the company was trying to answer. That range is not a market finding its price — it is three companies that have not yet agreed on what they are selling.
In August 2022, the Indian startup Shellios launched the Puros at Rs 4,500 — roughly $56, or £48 — with an integrated H13-grade HEPA filter, replacement filters at Rs 200, in medium and large only. It is certified to India's domestic safety standard. That is the floor of the category, and it has been sitting there for four years while everyone else talked.
At the other end, the Madrid company Zyon prototyped for four years and now reports more than 4,000 pre-orders at US$935 for its kit — helmet, twelve filters (about a year's worth), cleaning kit and bag. Its filter is a patented four-layer stack: the first layer stops water, insects and large debris; the second captures fine particles, dust and allergens; the third is activated carbon for gases; the fourth is a Spunbond fabric protecting the carbon. Three airflow modes on one button, and an app that reports air quality and tells you when the filter is spent.
Easi Breezi sits between them at $199, and takes a different route entirely — a clip-on unit rather than a new helmet.
So: 16.7× the price across the category, for the same sentence on the box. Both ends are defensible. The $56 helmet genuinely undercuts everything, and its H13 media is a finer grade than ours — we wrote about what the H11, H13 and carbon grades actually mean when the difference is measured rather than marketed. The $935 helmet genuinely out-specs everything, with sensors and connectivity nobody else is shipping. Neither is a con. They are answers to different questions.
Puros asked: how cheap can filtered air get? Zyon asked: how much helmet can you build around a filter? We asked a third: how do you filter the helmet somebody already owns?
Why passive ventilation was never going to solve this
Here is the thing worth noticing about that 16.7× spread: the three companies disagree wildly on price and agree completely on the physics. All three put a fan in the helmet. None of them thought vents alone would do it.
A helmet vent is a pressure-difference device. It moves air because the bike is moving — forward motion creates the pressure drop that pulls air through the shell. Take away the motion and the mechanism does not weaken, it stops. Which means your helmet's ventilation fails at precisely the moment your air is worst: stopped at a light, filtering between stationary cars, sitting behind a diesel exhaust in a queue.
Second: a vent screen is not a filter. Mesh sized to keep out gravel and insects is orders of magnitude coarser than PM2.5. A 2.5-micron particle passes a bug screen as though it were not there. "Ventilated" and "filtered" are different claims, and the market still runs them together.
Third — and this is the part that forces the fan — an unpowered filter is barely a filter. Put filtration media in front of a rider's face with nothing driving air through it and you have added breathing resistance; the air simply routes around it, through every gap the shell has. Filtration only counts if the air is made to go through it. The fan is not a feature. It is the thing that turns media into filtration.
And riders are the mode that needs it. In a Chennai commuting study, mean PM2.5 exposure was 251 ± 56 µg/m³ on a motorbike, against 224 ± 82 in a car and 225 ± 104 on a bus — and the motorbike trips averaged 50% less travel time while still delivering the higher exposure. What does the helmet air purifier market look like in 2031?
Start with an honest admission: nobody knows what it looks like right now, let alone in five years.
Four research houses have published on the smart-helmet market this year. Grand View values 2025 at $1.0 billion, rising to $1.2 billion in 2026 and $4.0 billion by 2033 at an 18.5% CAGR. Precedence values the same 2025 at $520.56 million, 2026 at $641.37 million, reaching $3.76 billion by 2035 at 21.85%. Fortune Business Insights lands between them at $911.70 million for 2025 and $1,078.50 million for 2026. Maximize put 2024 at $1,072.40 million.
Grand View and Precedence are describing the same year and differ by $559 million — very nearly 2×. That is not a rounding disagreement. It is what a market looks like before anyone has settled what counts as being in it.

So the market roughly 2.3× its 2026 size by 2031. Fine. But market size is the least interesting projection available here, because it measures what companies sell rather than what riders breathe.
Here is the one that matters. Researchers in Taipei modelled a full-time delivery rider — eight hours a day, five days a week, at a minute ventilation of 5 litres per minute — and put the intake at more than 46 mg of PM2.5 per year. Hold that flat across the five years to 2031, assuming air quality does not deteriorate at all, and that rider takes in over 230 mg of PM2.5. Roughly a quarter of a gram of combustion particulate, delivered to the deep lung, by someone doing their job.
Run the same five years through H11 media at ≥95% PM2.5 capture and the figure lands under 12 mg (46 × 5 × 0.05 = 11.5 mg). That is the arithmetic. It assumes the filter is fitted, powered and changed — which is exactly why the fan, and the filter-change reminder, are not garnish.
The prediction, stated plainly: by 2031 the helmet air purifier stops being three companies arguing and becomes a spec line, the way ABS did on motorcycles. The 16.7× spread closes from both ends. And the number that will actually persuade riders is not market size — it is milligrams.
The question the clip-on answers
Both integrated helmets ask you to replace a helmet you already trust, and for most riders the shell is the one thing on the bike they will not compromise on.

Probably from the top and dearer from the bottom. The current 16.7× spread reflects a category that has not standardised, and the market is projected to grow roughly 2.3× between 2026 and 2031. Categories that grow like that usually converge on price.
