One app, one number, no explanation is how most air apps work. Here is exactly what sits behind ours.
Gather every source we can reach
Reference-grade government monitors via OpenAQ, low-cost community sensors from Sensor.Community, and the CAMS global model from Open-Meteo. Each one is pulled fresh for the exact point you ask about.
Fuse concentrations, not indexes
We never average AQI numbers. Raw PM2.5 and PM10 are corrected for humidity, weighted by how close, how recent and how trustworthy each source is, then converted to AQI once at the end.
Score the confidence
Two independent families agreeing beats one loud source. Outliers are flagged and dropped. When only the model is available we say so, and we never call it the official index.

Why haze, and why PM2.5 gets through.
The number on this page is mostly PM2.5. Here is what that is, where it comes from, and why nothing on a normal helmet stops it.
Scale matters. PM2.5 is roughly thirty times thinner than a hair. It rides the air around any gap, which is why a visor changes nothing and a proper filter changes everything.
Where the haze comes from
Most of it is smoke from peatland and land-clearing fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan during the dry season. Peat burns slowly and underground, so it keeps smouldering for weeks after the flames are out.
Why it lands on your city
The south-west monsoon carries the smoke north and east across the Strait. That is why Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Johor can swing from clear to Unhealthy in a single afternoon while the fires have not moved.
What the WHO line means
The World Health Organization's 2021 guideline for a day of PM2.5 is 15 micrograms per cubic metre. The cards above show how many times over that line each city sits, because a rider breathes that air with no cabin and no filter.

Why your visor is not a filter.
A helmet visor keeps wind off your eyes. It does not filter the air you breathe. Visor down or visor up, every breath on the ride is the air around the bike, and haze is dominated by PM2.5, fine particles that pass straight through. Will it fit my helmet?
Fits any full-face helmet, or any half-face helmet with a visor that goes below your chin. If it doesn't fit yours, we refund.
How often do I change the filter in haze?
Every 7 days for best performance, or sooner if the airflow drops, which can happen faster in heavy haze.
Does it work at scooter speeds?
Yes. The fan does the work, not the wind, so it works at a standstill in traffic.
Is this the official PSI or API reading?
No. It is a model estimate fused from ground monitors and the CAMS global model, on the US EPA AQI scale. Singapore's NEA and Malaysia's DOE publish the official indexes, and their numbers can differ from ours by a band. Use ours to plan a ride, use theirs for a health decision.
Why does your number differ from my weather app?
Most apps show one source, often a single station or a single model. We fuse every source we can reach and weight it by distance, age and trust, then show you the working. Different inputs, different number. The band is usually the same.
